Welspun India has said it is looking to invest around Rs 800 crore on capacity expansion of its home textiles and flooring businesses over the next two years. Welspun India, the country’s largest home textiles manufacturer, would invest Rs 656.5 crore on its home textiles business expansion during FY'22-23. Its plans include augmenting its towel manufacturing capacity by 20 per cent to meet the growing demand from the overseas customers. The board of the company in a meeting held on Saturday approved plans to augment towel manufacturing capacity at its Anjar, Kutch (Gujarat)-based plant to 1,02,000 metric tonnes per annum (MTPA) from the existing 85,400 MTPA. “Keeping in view the recent trend of customers focus to track the entire value chain i.e., ‘Farm to Shelf’, the board has approved an investment in 40 looms for towel fabric at Anjar which represents 7 per cent of installed capacity,” said Welspun India in a late night regulatory filing. The World Bank is cancelling a prominent report on business conditions around the world after investigators found staff members were pressured by the bank’s leaders to alter data about China and some other governments. The bank said on Thursday it would discontinue “Doing Business” following an investigation prompted by internal reports of “data irregularities” in its 2018 and 2020 editions and possible “ethical matters” involving bank staff. Staff members changed data on China to improve its ranking under pressure from the office of then-World Bank President Jim Yong Kim and from then-Chief Executive Kristalina Georgieva and one of her advisers, an investigation conducted by Washington law firm WilmerHale for the bank concluded. Igor Fruman , a former associate of Rudy Giuliani, pleaded guilty Friday in Manhattan federal court to soliciting a political contribution from a foreign national.  Fruman faces a maximum of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine on January 21, when he’s scheduled to be sentenced, although the range is 37-46 months, based on sentencing guidelines. In his allocution, Fruman described the business venture in cannabis that he and his co-defendants embarked on as having “one part of the business plan including donations to government officials in those states." He added that they had created a draft list with potential names of Democratic and Republican politicians for donations, even though they knew that foreign nationals are barred from making political donations. Al-Mina, Gaza – “It really changes nothing for us,” says Palestinian fisherman Khaled al-Habil. “Since we don’t have the spare parts we need for maintenance and repair, most boats can’t even go that far.” Khaled was referring to the expansion of Gaza’s fishing zone announced by COGAT, an Israeli military unit responsible for civilian matters in the occupied territories, last Wednesday. Among other measures, the fishing zone was expanded to 15 nautical miles (28km). Although the Oslo Accords  signed in the early 1990s obligate Israel to allow boats to go as far as 20 nautical miles (37 km), the maximum it has ever permitted, up until last week, was 12 nautical miles (22km). Beirut, Lebanon – Lebanon’s caretaker social affairs and economy ministers have announced a long-awaited cash card programme to throw a desperately needed financial lifeline to half a million vulnerable families. “It is your right to live in dignity,” caretaker Social Affairs Minister Ramzi Moucharafieh said during a press conference in Beirut on Thursday. “I am as proud to have launched this card programme as I am sad about Lebanon reaching this stage in what it’s going through.” The cash card programme will be active for one year and provide $25 for each individual in a household, with a maximum payout of $126 per family.
